Absolutdata bagged the 2nd Runner-up award at Technology Premier League 2019, held on the 20-21st September 2019 in New Delhi. Technology Premier League is India’s top technology and business strategy contest in which best of the best corporate teams grapple with a set of realistic business situations—and formulate implementable solutions for identified challenges. The contest is conducted over two days, and involves strategic thinking, teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills while working within a series of constraints. All participating teams will need to present to—and persuade—an independent jury to win the competition.

This year saw participation from over 50 select corporate teams who were given practical business scenarios, information overload, complex alternatives and trade-offs, and dramatic situation changes. All the teams needed to analyze a business scenario (given as a case study), and formulate an appropriate technology strategy that is aligned to the requirements of the organization. One mandatory condition- The proposed solutions could only include Google Cloud solutions or technologies.

The teams were allocated the case studies on Day 1, after which they were given just an hour to come up with a solution. After trainings and workshop sessions, the teams were introduced with a special situation or as they say, ‘a twist’, which would apply to the case and potentially alter the solution strategy or approach. The teams had to collectively formulate, present and defend the solution on Day2. The teams had to come up with a realistic winning solution, that could be easily implemented in a business setup. The timelines were crunched and the pressure was immense!

The solution had to be delivered in two stages: Big Idea (a high level elevator pitch for the proposed solution) and IT Project (covering aspects like business challenges, technology opportunities, technical implementation and the potential impact). The teams were rigorously evaluated by a multi-member jury along the following aspects: clarity, impact, comprehensiveness, risk mitigation, originality. Each team was allocated 2 mins to present the ‘Big Idea’, out of which only 15 teams made it to the second round.

Absolutdata was challenged with a case wherein a leading clothing and accessories retail chain was challenged with flattened toplines and dipping bottom lines, wrong positioning, lack of digital presence, disjointed offline-online customer experience. Our team identified that the business needed a true omni-channel presence and integrated customer buying experience, leading to higher satisfaction. Our big idea was to build a customer centric, online & offline shopping experience through a ‘DIGITAL TRIAL ROOM’ which would drive sales/revenue for the company, by leveraging technology and data. The solution was focussed on digital transformation for the retailer, which would lead to revenue uplift, increased store footfall, higher volume of repeat purchases and customer delight.

After working through the night, Team Absolutdata delivered a solution which would drive top-line growth, enhance operational efficiency and is highly customer centric. Our agile and implementable solution impressed the judges and we walked up the ladder of glory. We were awarded with the third position, competing against big companies like HCL Technologies, NIIT, Max Group, Times Internet, Panasonic India, Innodata Labs, DishTV, FarEye, NTPC, to name a few. The winning teams, Absolutdata, HCL and NIIT will soon feature in a business program on CNBC in October.
